Gianni Faedda, M.D. is a psychiatrist and psychopharmacologist specializing in Mood Disorders. He received his M.D. from the University of Cagliari, Italy. His training in psychiatry was at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine as a Fellow in Psychopharmacology. At Einstein, he served as Director of Research in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. In 1991 he founded and still directs the Lucio Bini Mood Disorder Center of New York. He has served as a reviewer for the National Institutes of Mental Health, several psychiatric journals, and he served on the Scientific Advisory Board of Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation. He has been an Associate Editor for the Child, Adolescent and Developmental Psychiatry of Biomed Central Psychiatry. He is the coauthor of ‘Parenting a Bipolar Child’, a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Member of the European Bipolar Forum, a Member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a Lifetime Member of the International Society for Bipolar Disorder and the Co-chair of its Taskforce on: ‘Prodromes of Bipolar Disorders.’ He is a Clinical Instructor at NYU Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry & Child Study Center where he conducts independent research and collaborative projects with centers in the US and Europe, with an emphasis on early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of Mood Disorders. He has been involved in both clinical care and research involving people with VCFS since 1992 and has been an author of peer reviewed articles about that in prestigious medical journals. He continues to be active in treating many cases of VCFS and also his research together with other members of the team from the Virtual Center for VCFS.
